DDM03 Apeldoorn : Wheels of Steel

AnneM asked me to write a short intro to the DM03 Apeldoorn meeting on June 9th.
From hereof referred as the “Wheels of steel” meeting, yup that it was.
Not that we raced around speeding with our cars, shooting out and loosing all car tyres, nope. Reals wheels of steel we’re talking about : steam powered trains with big wheels turning.

AnneM had the splendid idea to arrange a shoot-out at the workshop of the VSM.
VSM is the Veluwsche Stoomtrein Maatschappij, located in Beekbergen close to Apeldoorn. In other words, old steam-trains, kept alive and running by a pack of enthusiasts in a former train company workshop. The trains used to be working on continental railroads through EU and the initiative was taken to keep the heritage saved for next generations. On a regular base, the trains still run on a track, carrying passengers for tourist rides. Check out the VSM Website for more info (non-DDM’s please use online translation –LOL-) Anne arranged the O.K. from the responsible people to let us Dutch Dyxummers spread around on their turf and walk in their ways while shooting virtually anything interesting. Some deals were made for using our supposed high-Q shots (ahum) for their site and promo materials as well.

The afternoon offered bright sunny weather, with clouds, ideal to produce some nice pics.
Dyxum’s Dutch 6-pack consisted of standing left>right) Willem (Grubeater), Domien (Dopol), Wietse (Wietse) and sitting left>right Jan-Peter (Jepem), Anne (AnneM) and Dirk (Dirk).

Some members couldn't make it, due to several reasons, hope next meeting will be at least a dozen members.
The meeting was a success, motivating for a next meeting on short notice. On behalf of all participants : Thanks Anne for making the arrangements and the splendid idea for the site.

Beautiful! Thanks for sharing! I know I'm repeating myself, but I love steam locomotives! Wish I had been there with you guys. Love the detail shots. Which locomotive is that Anne? Looks like a BR44 or BR50 from my days of living in Germany.

your thread is now called "wheels of steel" ... I like the title, I've also started a new thread to call for ideas on thread naming and the ideas thread. Please see meetings forum.

Looks like you all had a steamy day out.
