I just can't contain my excitement and have to tell somebody about my good fortune. I bought a "brand-new-in-box" Maxxum 9 35mm film camera yesterday. --At what I think was a bargain price too. :-) Goody Goody!! I think I'll have to seal it up and store it with the national archives!
Now I have to see about getting Sony to upgrade it for SSM lenses and ADI flash which also increases the original 21 custom functions to 23. The 2 added are probably related to flash --I suppose. |

Used Maxxum 9s are selling from ~$450 to $900+ depending on what's with them and condition. If there is a VC-9 grip included they go for about $125 to $200 more than without. Yesterday B&H had one used Maxxum 9, body only, (no grip) condition 9+ listed at about $979 and it was sold overnight.
Amazon.com has a "new-in-box" Maxxum 9, body only, (no grip) for $1199.99 from a supplier named "Discount Jungle." There is another enterprising seller, Dealznet.com with a "new-in-box" Maxxum 9 listed for sale at $2954.64. The camera was sold most often for $1399USD when it was introduced until production ceased. The Maxxum/Dynax 9 is a weather sealed professional camera like no other. |

Have fun with a 9; the responsiveness is amazing.
It would be a pity if you are going to seal it... : 0 |

Wow ... should have held onto mine ! I sold it for around $400 which was the going rate a while ago. At least that was only half what I paid for it (used, of course). Best thing ... well, maybe not best thing ... about it is the awesome sound the shutter makes, sort of like shutting the door on a really well made luxury car :)

Wow, they are still going for that much? Little to rich for what use I would give it. These prices put it between the Nikon F5 and the newer F6 which since I went Nikon digital would make more sense for me. But I just don't shoot film enough to justify those costs.
Great to see that the Minolta body was years ahead at the time and is still kicking! |

So folks, I have 2 Maxxum 9s now. (how arrogant can you get!)
I'll have the new one for "Sunday go to meeting" and my other slightly older Maxxum 9 with grip for going to the swamp. :-) So, yes, I will be using one of my 9s and enjoying every minute while the other "gains weight" for the slaughter when it's time for that. |

Not the greatest option, but the m9 w/ grip can use 4x AA batteries.
Definitely keep us posted on the upgrades. |

Minolta did the SSM upgrade free for Maxxum/Dynax 9 owners who bought new SSM lenses. I believe the charge was something like ~$240 for the upgrade and no SSM lens purchase. I'll be in touch. I have a certain feeling that Sony will do the upgrade, but for how much --? I wonder if there is a Sony SSM free deal clincher too. I'll want it done on both my 9s for added value, what ever that may be.

For Canada and Likely USA:
I went to this page: http://www.sony.ca/sonyca/view/english/warranty/consumer_support_KONICA.shtml and from there I phoned the number for film camera support. I explained to the KM support person on the phone what I was looking for, and after a little wrangling, they has me phone Precision Camera at 1-800-665-6515. They are in Connecticut. KM told me to escalate directly to the KM program manager, but when I phoned, she was in a meeting. Hopefully she will phone me back with more info. I'm also gonna try the store I originally purchased my M9 and see what they tell me. |

Things are warming up. An eyecup Minolta EC-9 for the Maxxum 9 just sold on an eBay auction for $57.00US shipped. Sheesh! That is what's missing from most used M9s. Don't leave home without it folks.

I can't imagine them doing the SSM upgrade as a freebie for owners of D lenses. Konica Minolta put the upgrade deal as a freebie for new SSM buyers only and charged others. Yes, a part of the software upgrade is for distance encoding as in D lenses but that did not qualify D owners as an upgrade freebie. I would like to think Sony may be more likely to do it than Konica Minolta ever was though.
I am going to be in touch with Sony with my brand new Maxxum 9 this week for a showdown. I hope they haven't got tired of hearing about it from others kicking in the door since I brought it up. Edited by Shercando - 24 October 2006 at 01:05 |

For SSM upgrade, 1 circuit board needed to be replaced. Hopefully, there are still parts around. Keep us posted.
